Blackstrap Electrik Co. "Black Wax 1951" pickups are the only totally accurate replicas of the Fender Broadcaster pickup set. These pickups are completely hand made by me. Over the last several years, I've researched every obscure detail of these early Fender pickups, and have sourced all the correct materials to craft pickups that bear all the ragged beauty of the originals.
-USA hand-shaped alnico 3 magnet slugs
-USA phenolic resin flat-work
-USA zinc-clad steel elevator plate
-USA thin brass neck pickup cover with thin chrome finish and full coil coverage.
-USA NOS plain-enamel copper wire (#43 on both pickups)
-USA cloth-covered, stranded hookup wire
-USA Southern beeswax tinted opaque black with house "lamp black" powder
-USA nitrocellulose lacquer tinted with UK organic, plant-derived black dye
-USA organic, unbleached cotton twine
Many proprietary processes are used to ensure that each pickup looks (and even smells) exactly like the 1951 originals. Revealing them here would prove an exhausting and dreadfully arcane read, but for the truly obsessive, careful visual inspection of photographs should reveal the most obscure features. I get huge satisfaction from accurately replicating antique electronics.
